I was focusing on were minor. If they are minor, why are they still portrayed as truth. If they were the truth back then and now they are not, were they ever the truth? How can we claim to have the truth if we keep changing it.

The teachings of greater weight (one God, no hellfire, rejection of idolatry, etc.) are there. Actually, in Christianity as a whole those are the minor teachings. The greater teaching is the salvation by Christ and not through an organization. Do you believe you can be christian alone?" Yes you can. A Christian is somebody who believes in Christ and salvation through him. JW's are not Christians by the strict definition of the word. "would you try to go anywhere else to worship?" I would rather go nowhere. Jesus never thought us that there is a need to worship together in unity with an organization. Ask him for proof where Jesus organized a single organization. Rather he told the apostles that attempted to stop the man healing in the name of Jesus: If they're not for us, they're against us. Likewise Nikodemus was a Christian but didn't gather anywhere in large groups. I mentioned that where there are 2 or 3, I am in your midst. Exactly. Can you not find 2 or 3 like-minded people? Yes you can. There are many religions to 'pick' out of. Doesn't mean theirs is right. The faithful slave is wrong, but admits it. If you don't believe they are at the right doctrine yet, wait on Jehovah. The F&DS never admits wrong. They never have! Ask him where you can find retractions of statements such as 1975, blood, transplants. Again, if the prophecies were claimed to be inspired or guided by Holy Spirit, why were they wrong? Why were they claimed to be inspired if they weren't right in the first place? Also, if we wait on Jehovah why does Jehovah have to change a lot of things back and forth? There are countless examples of JW doctrine that has flip-flopped. Ask him if he thinks maybe the organization has lost the guidance of the Holy Spirit over the years? He probably will say no. Then ask, why then has the doctrine the Holy Spirit approved in 1918 when the Witness leaders were freed from jail changed so severely since? Could the Holy Spirit or Christ approve of a religion that thought false doctrine back then? If the doctrine back then was not false, how come most of it is now false (such as the explanation on how to calculate 1914, Christmas etc.)
He kept pursuing the bigger picture. However those that are not faithful in little are not to be trusted to be faithful in much! no matter how good worldies are, it's very difficult to find someone you can trust Actually, that's JW indoctrination. It's very hard to find a JW you can trust. Find a JW that you can't trust going to the elders for any little misstep, find a JW that will accept you for being different. It's very easy to find a worldly you can trust for being different, many more if you actually go out and talk to some people and build up a relationship however there are as much JW's if not more as there are 'worldly' people that are dishonest. I hadn't seen in any other religion what this one does. Such as? Mormons are very close to JW's except for their cookie "looking into a hat" prophet. Bible Students are still around and are the 'others' that stopped following the WTBTS when the split happened and Rutherford took over the organization by force. They still spread Russell's message and books. If you take an honest look around you see many that do what the JW does and more. Who is helping flood victims, earthquake victims etc. It's definitely NOT JW's as they only help themselves and only barely so, many Witnesses in Louisiana had to rely on handouts from the Catholic Church, regardless of the sob stories the JW publishes they did not help them. I even volunteered to go over there and they said there was no need, I was with the RBC and never even got an invitation or status report to repair any houses or kingdom halls. He diverted to overlapping generation So was the old light not the truth then? "You still believe in Jehovah, you still want to follow Bible morals. We can help you." Help what? I believe in God (Jehovah or Yahweh), I follow Bible morals, nobody can "help" me, salvation is through Christ and only he can help me. I am still a Witness though but I do not want to diverse too far from the basic Christian morals that are thought among either JW's or other protestant religions. I do not want to be part of an organized religion though as those seem to get in the way of a personal relationship with God. Why do THEY need to help YOU if God himself says that he will call those worthy to his organization?

The problem is that many don't even know the dating procedure according to WTBTS-approved sources. I actually identified from stage in talks and in my answers in the meetings before that Babylon fell in 587 BC - nobody even responded, the elder said "Good Answer" and the rest was nodding along (maybe falling asleep, don't know). You can get away with a lot in your answers these days especially on these obscure theologies. I even mentioned once that WTBTS was part of the UN, nobody responded not even to put me in a Judicial Committee.

Abiogenesis happened, somewhere, somehow. You can't claim God existed forever and created everything if you don't want to accept that energy existed forever and grouped together to form life. They are the same thing, one thing is believed (but not proven) to be intelligent, the other thing is just chance. The reason scientist don't answer the god-community that asks where did the energy come from is because it's a really stupid question and does not actually help the scientific process, it only dilutes the search for what actually happened in our timeline and gives creationists soundbytes and information they don't understand and subsequently find fault with.

The thing is God is really hard to prove experimentally (he doesn't show himself unless you believe that he does things that cause him to not show himself) while scientific abiogenesis has some merit out of our understanding of life and experiments done (put stuff in a test-tube, shake it and you have the building blocks of a life form, shake it some more and you get primordial lifeforms).

This is from an anti-porn, pro-government-filter source so take this with a grain of salt. It says - contains porn, not necessarily geared towards porn and also mentions the statistics are hard to come by.

Pornographic websites

4.2 million (12% of total websites)

Although Netcraft mentions for that year there were over 70 million INDEXED websites which would probably mean 6% or less in that year was porn.

I think the 80% was from some crackpot study done on the subject or a statistic taken out of context in the early 90's and (is still) an urban myth among a lot of evangelical websites and preachers.

I would say from my experience between 1% and 3% are porn sites or if you're using a blocklist based on subject, about 10% of sites that have been classified in a specific subject (such as "social networking", "search engines", "religious") are classified adult or porn.

Watchtower Publications for iPad

i discovered today that the september magazines and the nwt are available as epub files on the jw.org website.

that's pretty handy for those of you with ipads that have the interest in reading them (especially those still "in").

i'm guessing this works with e-readers and other tablets.. what is particularly noteworthy is that when opened in ibooks, the articles have links to all the scriptures, footnotes, etc, and links back to the paragraph.

I don't know if you listened or read any of the recent letters about the music and magazines on jw.org - they do claim that every individual download carries a charge but it is less than the cost of literature. Of course they won't mention how much it cost.

I don't know their agreement with their server hosting but paying per download is not the way it usually works in the industry. You pay per MB transferred OR you pay per Mbps (bandwidth) with a cap. Given the size and load of jw.org/watchtower.org I would reckon they pay per Mbps, probably between 500-1000Mbps which is approx. $1000/month + hosting costs. I doubt they pay more than $10,000/month for hosting and bandwidth combined so that's less than .1c/witness/month. Even if the whole operation costs $100,000/month ($1.2M/year) (that is approx. 10 full racks of gear) the average witness would not pay more than a few cents per month.

The urge to convert people

where does the urge to convert people to ones own view come from?.

i grew up a jehovah's witness and jehovah's witnesses are always right.

that's where i learned to always be right and it took me years to realize that i could also "agree to disagree", although i still often forget about this.

Actually, I think very few have the urge to convert anyone. The only ones with the urge are those benefiting from it (most likely financially). If you're not benefitting you don't have that urge, that's why so many JW's loathe going "in service" because the only thing it does is make you look stupid.

The reason they still do it is because if they're not they're not going to attain status and they have been scared that they will eventually lose their everlasting life although the last reason is still not enough for some (especially single women).

Some in other religions like to talk and convince others they are right simply because deep down they know they are wrong. They are trying to justify their belief system just like they are going to try justifying other decisions they made wrong, there is actually a whole section of psychology devoted to just that.

Since no JW witness I know off has picked up on the double generation overlap, I think many are still getting disillusioned over the old light but that won't change if they look at the new light. They've preached the same thing a bit too long and now it's coming back to bite them.

It's official

we are now doing a trial run for accepting credit/debit cards at the convention for donations this summer.

no reciepts or copies of reciepts will be held by the wt.

the monies will be deposited straight into the society's account.

I hope they do it at ours. Just last week somebody was slamming the local churches for doing this - if they haven't gotten it through their skull yet that the WTBTS is the same, they hopefully will now.

Anything you post on Facebook will eventually be made public whether you like it or not. Advertisers simply buy the information even if you don't want it to be public to everyone. Facebook is against privacy, that's how they make money.

The 80% quote was actually from the WTBTS (can't remember if it was an article or a convention talk) in the early 90's which they have since 'forgotten'. The 'burning images in your brain' is likewise from articles in the WT.

The matter of fact is that if you have a computer that is popping up pornographic images all the time, most likely you have been visiting way too much porn and not the 'standard' kind either.

What I've seen in the latest magazines is that they are very afraid of the Internet. The last study article again recommended to 'not have Internet at all' or 'have somebody with you when on the Internet'. What they don't want is people finding websites such as this, jwfacts and such.
